I’ve really neglected posting on here. Sadly, I can’t think of any legit excuses for this.

But I’m back with first impressions on an anime that has caught my attention lately.
Obey Me! is originally an Otome and RPG card game that I played but never finished. In a nutshell, the story is about the main character (MC) living with seven demon brothers. Recently, the creators adapted the game into an animation for free on their YouTube channel, which has three episodes out at the time of writing.
I usually have mixed feelings about games to anime adaptations, especially when it comes to dating sim games. But I was pleasantly surprised at this one. I came across an episode review on Sweet & Spicy Reviews which prompted me to check this out. (I low-key love her blog’s color scheme and design.)
Rather than a full-blown anime, the creators decided to make this into a series of animated shorts, which I think is a great choice. It’s sweet, and simple. So far, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of plot, if at all. Instead, the series focuses on the snippets of the brothers’ chaotic lives, which is reminiscent of the game.
But I mean, what obviously sold me was substituting the MC as a sheep plushie. Since the MC is gender-less and appearance-less in the game, the writers probably decided on something that everyone would like.
The animation is also better than I expected. The quality is better than the game.
If you’re not familiar with the game, the anime might be a little off-putting since it seems like it’s all over the place so far. But you do get a nice introduction to the brothers in the first episode.
Overall, it’s a cute anime so far, which has the potential to turn into a full-blown anime series. But maybe that would depend on demand and the popularity of the current series.
Yess! More Obey Me Anime fans! You made a good point about it not making much sense to people who haven’t played the game – it’s definitely targeted towards existing fans, although I agree the first episode does introduce the brothers and it could still pique interest in potential new players. Hopefully there’s enough demand for a full-blown anime!
