A huge thank you to Minty for supporting this project! Minty is one of the writers at Black & Yellow Otaku where they talk about anime, music, dramas, webtoons, novels, games, and more. You can follow also Minty on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
This year, I got acquainted with Minty, and her content is always great to read. The team also has a podcast where they talk about what they’ll be watching, stuff they’ve dropped, reviews, and more.
Are you looking for guests?
I know Minty is a Kpop fan. Her latest Music Mondays have involved a Kpop song, so it’ll probably be difficult to introduce something new… but let’s see.
For Minty’s playlist, I thought I would introduce songs from artists under one company… and since I’ve been a long-time SM Stan, let’s see which SM songs make it to Minty’s playlist.
I hope you enjoy your playlist, Minty!
You Better Know – Red Velvet
Is it just me, or are Red Velvet’s B side tracks are often superior to their title tracks? You Better Know is one of my favourite B sides… ever. The instrumental build-up to the chorus is *chef’s kiss*. And then that beat slowdown after the chorus is the cherry on top.
Anyway, Minty mentioned that she would probably go after her dreams. She knows that it would involve a lot of struggle, but those would also be happy memories because she enjoys what she’s doing. That’s an interesting way of looking at it, and I like that positivity.
You Better Know talks about knowing the moment to go after something. Time’s ticking, so you better act fast. And I feel that is very true when it comes to life in general. You won’t be getting any younger, so just go for it.
I chose this for Minty’s playlist mainly because of the amazing instrumental. From her responses and the times I’ve talked with her, she seems fun and a down-to-earth person. The instrumental is similar. It only picks up during the chorus, which gives life to the song. And I feel like that is similar to Minty’s personality.
Your Number – SHINee
I fell in love with this after watching it years ago. I rewatched it, and it was love all over again. More SHINee in suits, please! The song is also bomb.
Minty’s love advice is similar to everyone who submitted so far. Don’t forget to love yourself first. I chose this for Minty’s playlist because of how classy and simple the music video is. It also oozes confidence.
I won’t go on a monologue like I did for hiddengirl75’s playlist, but I will say that loving yourself has a lot to do with your confidence. And the suits are just the cherry on top.
You don’t need something flashy to woo people. Keepin’ it real and simple is the way to go.
As a side note, I wish more groups did music videos like this. And… who wouldn’t give their number to SHINee?
Disturbance – BoA
BoA’s discography back in the day was superior.
Disturbance talks about the feeling of breaking up. I feel like this could also apply to friends as well. You get the feeling that someone is drifting further and further away from you for whatever reason until the friendship just breaks.
Minty mentioned that she could still be cordial with a person who wronged her. I chose this song for Minty because of the melody. It’s not happy, but it’s not depressing either. It’s the sweet spot in the middle.
Who Are You – BoA
Who Are You is a cute song that talks about the feeling in the very early beginning stages of liking someone. They’re constantly in your head and you think this person is different and special.
I chose this song to represent Minty’s love for music. She mentioned that she adores music, and she’ll translate and write English lyrics for songs that she likes. I’m curious if you have written original songs, Minty. Or if that’s a plan you have in the future?
Best Friend – Wendy feat. Seulgi
Wendy’s solo debut blew my expectations away. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with what she delivered. All of the tracks on her mini-album are worth listening to. Heck, buy the album. It’s too good.
Anyway, this is another song to represent Minty’s relationship with music. It’s a sweet song with a beautiful melody. While BoA’s song is upbeat and catchy, this one represents the deeper connection one has with something or someone they love.
I think SM artists will always have a special place in my heart. Even though I may not like their newer releases, their music was pretty much all I listened to back in the day. They really started and developed my love for Kpop.
Not including Minty’s playlist, I have two more playlists to do, and then my queue will be empty. After I finish those, I think I’ll be wrapping this project up and finish with my own playlist and thoughts about this project. But this is just to give a heads up on what’s to come in the next few weeks regarding Kpop playlists.
But while the project will be wrapping up, I’m open to doing this anytime. If I get a submission, I’ll do it anyway, XD.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your playlist, Minty!
