“We just went to have coffee,” Mike insisted.
Emily spun around, giving her boyfriend a furious and doubtful look. “You really think I’m going to believe she simply asked you out for coffee? After she tried to kiss you at the party?”
“Jess was drunk,” Mike said. “She wasn’t–”
“Why do you always stand up for her?” Emily snapped. “She needed my help. She had no one else to go to. She was depressed. How many more excuses can you come up with? Mike saw the desperation in Emily’s eyes. “Am I… am I not good enough?”
He suddenly kissed her.
With his forehead pressed against hers after pulling away, Mike whispered, “Em, you’re perfect. You really are.”
Without any hesitation, Emily slapped him.
“You really think I’m going to believe your bullshit? After you ignored my calls and cancelled our dates three times for no fucking reason?”
“So, you think I’m the one to blame? What about you and Matt, huh? The way you kept touching him when you had the chance.”
Emily scoffed. “What are you talking about?”
“You think I don’t know about the time you and Matt snuck out somewhere during that party to–”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Michael! Nothing happened between us!”
“Right, you think I’m going to believe that? While you’re suspiciously accusing me, I can’t do the same to you? I had my reasons, Em. Jess was going through a hard time and she came to me for help. What was I supposed to do? Be a douche and tell her to fuck off?”
Emily turned her back to him. “Leave, Michael. Just leave.”
She heard the door shut behind her before she completely broke down.
